About our speakers:
Longtime Alabama television journalist Rick Journey serves as Director of Communications, driving all strategic communications for Mayor Woodfin. Veteran journalist and corporate communication consultant Chanda Temple serves as Public Information Officer, working as the first-line of contact for public inquiry to the Mayor’s office.
Journey and Temple have been working to restructure the Office of Public Information (OPI) to place an emphasis on open communication within the city and among its residents.
The Office of Public Information serves an important role in telling the story of an evolving Birmingham. Both bring a fresh and innovative way to talk with the people of Birmingham – residents, employees, small businesses, media and the Birmingham City Council.
Journey is a Birmingham native who has spent most of his career in the city as a broadcast journalist, first joining WBRC FOX6 News in 1992. Journey left WBRC in December 2017 to join OPI. Journey has also provided communication consulting in business and politics. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
Temple, also a graduate of the University of Alabama, has lived in the Birmingham area for more than 20 years. She’s handled public relations for the Birmingham Public Library and Birmingham City Schools and worked as a reporter for The Birmingham News. Before joining OPI in December 2017, she worked as a communications consultant for BBVA Compass.
Join PRCA-Birmingham Wednesday, April 18, for our meeting at the Vestavia Hills “Library in the Forest.” Street address is 1221 Montgomery Highway, Vestavia, 35216. We will be in the Community Room as soon as you enter to the left.
