The speaker is James L. Anderson, senior vice president of communications for Turner’s Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang.
As chief spokesperson, Anderson works closely with the president and is responsible for developing and leading communications strategies for every aspect of the business including: programming, consumer products, global franchising, gaming and the company’s premium subscription video service.
A veteran corporate and entertainment communications strategist who has supervised the campaigns of over fifty television series, Anderson joined Turner in 2005, as vice president, public relations for Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of publicity and public relations for the Carsey-Werner Company where he created an in-house communications department that developed and implemented all PR efforts for the corporate, production, syndication and film divisions of the company. Anderson has led the campaigns for such series as, That ‘70s Show, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Roseanne, Cybill, Grace Under Fire, A Different World, The Powerpuff Girls, The Boondocks, Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe and Childrens Hospital. He and his team were honored with the 2012 PR News Corporate Social Responsibility award for their work on the pro-social initiative Stop Bullying: Speak Up.
Anderson is a native of Baltimore, Md., and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater at Denison University in Ohio, where he currently is on the Board of Trustees. He’s a graduate of The John E. Anderson School of Management at UCLA in partnership with the NAMIC Executive Leadership Development Program; and serves on the Boards of the SIFMA Foundation (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, NAMIC (National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications) and the Tony winning Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, serving as National Show Chairman for the 2003 Emmys Awards and 2004 Governor’s Award Committee and was formerly on the Board of the Los Angeles Chapter of Sickle Cell Anemia.
Turner is a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.
