With experience in multiple media markets, these leaders will present tips and answer your most pressing questions. Panelists include BHM Biz and B-Metro Editor and Publisher Joe O’Donnell, Birmingham Business Journal Managing Editor Stephanie Rebman, Birmingham magazine Editor in Chief Julia Sayers and The Birmingham Times Media Group Executive Editor Barnett Wright. Joe O’Donnell, BHM Biz and B-Metro editor and publisher
Joe O’Donnell is the editor and publisher of BHM Biz and B-Metro magazines. Born in Philadelphia, he has worked in the Birmingham market since 1987, when he became editor of Birmingham magazine. He remained at that magazine until leaving to launch B-metro, a new kind of city magazine in 2009. In 2016, BHM Biz was launched as a glossy business title for the metropolitan Birmingham business community. Joe lives in Birmingham with his wife, four children and two grandchildren.
Stephanie Rebman, Birmingham Business Journal managing editor
Stephanie Rebman has been managing editor of the Birmingham Business Journal since July 2016. She previously was editor-in-chief of the Oxford Eagle in Oxford, Mississippi, and night editor of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo, Mississippi. She also had roles as weeklies editor at the Carrolton Times-Georgian and staff reporter for the Alexander City Outlook. The Birmingham-Southern College graduate is serving on the board of directors for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and for the Action Civitan Club. She also is on the junior board of directors for Vulcan Park & Museum and a member of The Women’s Network.
Julia Sayers, Birmingham magazine editor in chief
Julia Sayers is the editor in chief of Birmingham magazine, the city’s longest-running lifestyle magazine. The award-winning magazine has been published consecutively for 56 years and covers all things Birmingham, including food, people and places, fashion, arts, and more. A native of North Carolina, Julia moved to Birmingham five years ago and immediately fell in love with the city. She worked at both Oxmoor House and Hoffman Media before joining the team at Birmingham magazine a little more than two years ago. She loves writing about food, travel, and all the wonderful things Birmingham has to offer.
Barnett Wright, The Birmingham Times Media Group Executive Editor
Barnett Wright is an award-winning reporter who has been recognized for his journalism in Birmingham, Alabama, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In February 2016, he was named executive editor of The Birmingham Times Media Group.
Wright worked for 15 years beginning in 2000 with The Birmingham News, which became a part of the Alabama Media Group that now publishes AL.com. He has covered municipal and county government and served as lead reporter on Jefferson County’s historic municipal bankruptcy. Other duties included reporting on all aspects of county government, including coverage of the health department, sheriff’s office, environmental services department and roads department. He also exposed Jefferson County corruption cases, including financial transactions that led to the convictions of more than a dozen county officials.
Wright served as lead reporter on AL.com/The Birmingham News coverage of the 50th anniversary commemorations of 1963 civil rights marches and is author of “1963: How the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement Changed America and the World (The Birmingham News Company).”
He received first place awards for his work from the Alabama Press Association; The Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Pictures of the Year International Competition for Newspaper Special Section.
In 2017, the Alabama Press Association recognized The Birmingham Times with a first place award for Best Layout/Design.

The Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA) is the state’s largest and oldest group of public relations practitioners. The organization exists to further the professional and networking interests of today’s communication professionals in private, public and nonprofit businesses and organizations.
PRCA was formed by a group of Birmingham PR practitioners who saw the need for regular networking with their peers. Though the date of the first meeting is uncertain, various accounts put it sometime between 1953-56. The group is more formally organized now, with approximately 500 members in six chapters – Birmingham, East Alabama (Auburn/Opelika), Mobile, Montgomery, North Alabama (Huntsville) and West Alabama (Tuscaloosa). Along with networking, PRCA offers career development opportunities, mentors college students and works to improve the professionalism of public relations practice through its accreditation program.
SPRF is a network of public relations professionals from Alabama, northwest Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi who share a common interest in the public relations profession. Membership in the Federation is automatic for members of the PRCA, the Emerald Coast Public Relations Organization (ECPRO), the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL), and the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM).
